Her resignation marks the end of a period focused on improving the administrative framework of local sports, a key highlight of her leadership.

THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has announced the departure of its director-general, Eltah Nengomasha, who yesterday officially concluded her tenure with the commission after tendering her resignation three months ago.

The news was released in a Press statement yesterday, which also named her interim successor.

The SRC board expressed its gratitude to Nengomasha for her service.

The statement read: “The SRC board extends its appreciation to Ms Nengomasha for her service and contributions during her time in office, particularly in strengthening governance structures and stakeholder engagement across the sporting sector.”

Her resignation marks the end of a period focused on improving the administrative framework of local sports, a key highlight of her leadership.

The search for a permanent replacement is set to begin soon, with the commission promising an update on the process in due course.

In the interim, Peter Mudzimiri, who is the director of legal and corporate services, has been appointed as the acting director-general.

“To ensure smooth continuity of operations, the SRC has appointed Mr Peter Mudzimiri, director legal and corporate services, as acting director-general with immediate effect,” revealed the SRC.

“The board and management remain fully committed to the SRC’s mandate of promoting and regulating sport and recreation in Zimbabwe,” they added.

The appointment of an acting director is aimed at ensuring stability and continuity as the commission navigates this transition.

The full process for selecting a permanent director general is expected to be a thorough one, reflecting the importance of the role in the country’s sports landscape.
