Chiefs wary of wounded FC Platinum

Sweswe and his men face FC Platinum for the second time after the two clashed in the season curtain raiser, the Castle Challenge Cup.

BULAWAYO Chiefs coach Lizwe Sweswe is not reading too much into FC Platinum’s defeat to Highlanders at the weekend ahead of his own team’s clash with the champions in a league match at Mandava Stadium this afternoon.

Sweswe observed that the platinum miners are a strong unit and thus his charges will have to play some of their best football if they are to improve their chances of winning today.

Sweswe and his men face FC Platinum for the second time after the two clashed in the season curtain raiser, the Castle Challenge Cup.

FC Platinum lost their last league match at the hands of Highlanders, while Chiefs drew 0-0 against Black Rhinos.

“I think the boys are now ready. We respect them but the team we have now is ready. We can't count on the fact that they lost against Highlanders. When we analysed the game, we realised they are good in all areas,” Sweswe said.

“Their entries into the box, their movement without the ball and ball possession; we can't count on the results they got against Highlanders but we have to prepare this one on our own.

“I have one or two things that I spotted on that day, and we are working on it. I hope it will come out right on the day.”

Meanwhile, FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza is hoping his men will put behind memories of last week’s defeat.

Mapeza emphasised on the need to rectify the areas that were exploited by Highlanders.

“Our preparations have gone well. As you know, we are coming from a loss. It’s difficult and what is important for us is to remain united,” he said.

“We have a difficult match, so it’s all about mental strength because we are coming from a defeat.

“So far so good, I can't complain. We played well in Bulawayo, the boys did well but we didn't use some of the good opportunities we got. We are working on fixing those mistakes.

“I think we also didn't defend well, we could have done better. We have looked at those issues and everyone knows what we need to do. How we are going to get up, is what matters most.”
