Netball league ready to roll

The Rainbow Amateur Netball League (RANL) will kickstart its 2023 season tomorrow with the 18 teams battling it out in six venues.

Farm Prison, Shamva Mine, Chitungwiza, Shamva Urban, Morris Depot and Patchway will host the matches.

The league is set to start with a bang as the opening weekend will see champions Glow Petroleum and ZRP Mambas squaring off.

In an interview with NewsDay Sport, RANL secretary-general Moses Gukurume said they are ready for tomorrow’s matches.

“Teams are preparing to kick-off the games and they are promising stiff competition, so we can safely say that teams are giving us information that they are prepared both physically and mentally for these games,” Gukurume said.

“We have emphasized to our teams that we really need to run our league professionally this year, we need teams to get their matches early so that we don’t encounter hiccups. However, we cannot rule out unforeseen circumstances, but we hope that there would be fewer cases of teams failing to turn up so that we don’t disrupt our league. We got commitment from our teams that they are going to act professionally so that we see our league grow.”

The league has introduced licences which will help them foster discipline and professionalism in the league.

“We had some challenges in putting the licences together. However, some teams will have their licences ready by tomorrow. We are also urging our teams that are not fully paid in terms of affiliation fees to do so, so that we can get the resources to process licenses,” he said.
