Caps United collected their first point in eight attempts after battling to a goalless draw against Buffaloes in a Castle Premiership football match away in Sakubva, Mutare.

The point did not do much though for the Harare giants in terms of their movement on the log standings as they remain in 12th position with 20 points.

However, there is no doubt it will go a long way in helping to boost confidence within the United camp who last tasted victory in early June. The main worry though for coach Taurai Mangwiro and his assistant Mkhuphali Masuku, is their strikers’ impotence in front of goal. Yesterday’s match was the sixth they have failed to score a goal in their recent woeful run.

Main strikers Evans Gwekwerere, Clive Kawinga and Shingi Kawondera have not scored a goal this season while Washington Pakamisa has one goal to his name.

New recruit Leonard Fiyado, who arrived at the club during the transfer window, has two goals. The fact that expelled goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda is the club’s top goal scorer with three goals so far, tells a sad story.

Former Highlanders striker Nqobile Mpala is training with Caps and it looks like Mangwiro is prepared to take a gamble.
