Musona struck the first goal in the 2-0 win over Terrence Mandaza’s Maritzburg United on Saturday night, finishing off a shot after Siphiwe Tshabalala’s depleted effort had come off the post.

Bidvest Wits beat troubled Ajax Cape Town 1-0 to move into fourth place with seven points from three matches. Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari featured for the whole match while former Dynamos midfielder Denver Mukamba was on the pitch for 89 minutes before being replaced by Mathew Booth.

Veteran former Warriors anchorman Tinashe Nengomasha did not feature while defender Thomas Sweswe is still awaiting his residence permit.

In Belgium, Vusa Nyoni, a league winner with Highlanders in 2006, was a 69th substitute for Guinean international Richard Soumah as their side Mons drew 1-1 with Beveren. Things are not looking rosy for Nyoni as they lie in 15th place with just two points from seven matches.

Warriors winger Ovidy Karuru is planning on a move to Mushekwi’s side after a fallout with his coach at OH Leuven although a deal is yet to be concluded for the former Masvingo man.

Archford Gutu did not feature in Sweden when his side Kalmar drew 1-1 with AIK while in the English Championship, Bradley Pritchard’s Charlton Athletic are 17th with five points from five matches after a 1-1 away draw to Watford.

Bradley told the newshopper.co.uk yesterday: “They’re (Watford) a very good team, they pass the ball well and they’ve got some very good players.

“I’m slightly disappointed because we’ve gone ahead and we looked solid. We tried to become a lot more stable at the back and tried to cope with their counter attacks.

“We seemed to cope with a lot of what they did, so I guess it’s just unfortunate. But overall a point is good and we’re happy with that.”

Former Warriors striker Musa Mguni has returned to Ukraine top flight side Metalurh Donetsk after joining on a free transfer from Terek Grozny of Russia. The 30 year old has played 11 minutes of the new season after joining in on July 1.

He was not in action this weekend as his side thumped Hoverla 4-2 to move into seventh place with 13 points from nine games.

Former Warriors right-back Noel Kaseke is now a free agent after being released from Al-Shaab CSC in the UAE Pro-League, while Edward Sadomba, who also had a stint in the UAE, has moved to Libya, where the start of the new league has been postponed again.
