MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has reshuffled his national executive council following the party’s congress in April that saw losing candidates bouncing back into the MDC-T’s top decision-making body.
Former Cabinet minister and Mayor of Harare, Elias Mudzuri, has landed the post of secretary for transport and logistics while firebrand former trade unionist Lucia Matibenga has risen from being a mere committee member to become secretary of welfare.
Mudzuri replaces Seiso Moyo who was shifted to the portfolio of secretary for elections.
The appointments were announced at the party’s national executive meeting held at Harvest House early this week.
Tsvangirai also appointed his close confidante Jameson Timba as secretary for international relations and international cooperation replacing Eliphas Mukonoweshuro who has been moved to the newly created post of secretary for energy and power development.
Evelyn Masaiti was appointed secretary for lands and agriculture replacing Dr Vincent Gwaradzimba, who was left in the cold.
Those retained include Thabitha Khumalo (deputy secretary for information and publicity), Paurina Mpariwa (secretary for labour and social welfare), Fidelis Mhashu (secretary for education, sports, arts and culture) and Dr Henry Madzorera (secretary for health and child welfare).
Party veteran Giles Mutsekwa is back in the position of secretary for defence and security.

The Prime Minister also created new portfolios – information and communication technology development which he gave to Last Maengahama, and party business, investment and projects which went to Tose Wesley Sansole.
In addition, Tsvangirai appointed provincial representatives.
The meeting also discussed the issue of State-sponsored violence and identified that as the “greatest threat” to national security in Zimbabwe.
“As long as there is State-sponsored violence, then there can be no free and fair elections in Zimbabwe,” the MDC-T said in a statement after the meeting.
