The MDC-T yesterday said the embattled Zanu PF MP who doubles as Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Services, Tracy Mutinhiri,was welcome to join the party as she was being punished for being professional and discharging duties in a non-parti-san manner.
Party spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora said: “The MDC is a party for the future that celebrates diversity, professionalism and equality of women. Being such a party that should be home to all progressive people in Zimbabwe, Minister Mutinhiri is welcome to join the MDC.
“Zanu PF wanted her to chant slogans and act in a partisan way when discharging her du- ties as MP and chairperson of Constituency Development Fund. She, however, acted like a mother and a leader. To us, she is a professional MP, a dignified woman of virtue and is a clear example of what a community leader like an MP must do.”
MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa added: “Our dictum in organising for excellence in the party is to add, to strengthen to subtract is to weaken. Wherever there is an opportunity to add, we add. For MDC, all are welcome because the more the merrier.”
Contacted for comment yes- terday, Mutinhiri played her cards close to her chest, prefer- ring to say: “The party is bigger than me, and I don’t want to ap- pear as if I am fighting. I am not giving comments now.”
However, in an exclusive interview with NewsDay recently, Mutinhiri said she was living in fear, alleging that she was being trailed by people who accused her of voting for the MDC-T’s Lovemore Moyo for the post of Speaker of Parliament ahead of Zanu PF national chairperson Simon Khaya Moyo in March.
Her troubles started when she attended a funeral wake for her cousin, Innocent Muzuva, a known MDC-T activist, and thanked the party for footing the burial.
More trouble followed after she recently accompanied Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on a tour of Manicaland province and visited the Premier’s rural home.

After that, Zanu PF activists invaded her Marondera farm before the Mashonaland East provincial leadership recommended her expulsion from the party.
