The Speaker of the House of Assembly Lovemore Moyo has praised lawmakers from his political party for performing well during the just-ended Third Session of the Seventh Parliament.
Moyo said this at the weekend MDC-T 12-year anniversary celebrations at Gwanzura Stadium in Harare.
“I would like to applaud the MDC-T MPs for the tremendous work they have done in the Legislature,” said Moyo.
“The Public Order and Security Act amendments were passed in the House of Assembly and transmitted to Senate for consideration during the just-ended session of Parliament,” he said.
Moyo applauded Parliamentary Portfolio Committees and said MPs from his party did a sterling job in their supervisory role.
“The committees are also doing very well in their oversight role although recently during the Human Rights Commission public hearings, Zanu PF thugs disrupted some of the public consultation meetings.
“Despite these barbaric incidents, Parliament will not be intimidated and will continue to consult the public in its work and represent the interests of the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.
The public hearings on the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission Bill were disrupted in Chinhoyi, Mutare, Masvingo and then at the Parliament Building by Zanu PF supporters.

After the violence, Moyo called for thorough investigations and for the arrest of the perpetrators.
But Zanu PF secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa later told NewsDay in an interview that his party was going to defend their supporters if they were brought to book for the Parliament violence, including paying their legal fees.
On the constitution-making process which is being led by a parliamentary body, Copac, Moyo said one of the founding objectives of the MDC-T, which is to have a people-driven constitution had been almost attained.
“Currently the Constitution Parliamentary Select Committee is finalising its report and will soon be entering its next stage, which is the drafting stage,” Moyo said.
He said the people of Zimbabwe will have another opportunity to air their views on the constitution at the Second All- Stakeholders’ Conference as well as during the referendum.
