He was 60.

Home Affairs minister and Zanu PF administration secretary Ignatius Chombo confirmed the development yesterday in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda.

“May you please make arrangements for his burial and payment of benefits to his dependents. He is from Masvingo province,” part of Chombo’s letter read.

After informing the Chief Secretary, Chombo later led a ministerial delegation made up of Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi, War Veterans minister Tshinga Dube, Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Constantino Chiwenga and Zimbabwe National Army Commander Phillip Valerio Sibanda to Murozvi’s home to convey the message of the late army commander’s hero status.

Murozvi, whose Chimurenga name was James Tichatonga, reportedly succumbed to diabetes.

Although burial arrangements were still to be announced, family members said indications were that he would be buried tomorrow at the National Heroes’ Acre.

The late Murozvi is survived by his wife, Joice, and four children.

Mourners are gathered at House Number 78 Drew Drive, Grange, Harare.
