A ZAMBIAN truck driver appeared at the Victoria Falls’ Magistrates Court yesterday facing allegations of attempting to smuggle a Zimbabwean sex worker into his country.

This was heard when Bwalya Chisanga (35) appeared before resident magistrate, Rangarirai Gakanje facing allegations of attempting to smuggle out Nomatter Nyoni (22) of Chinotimba surburb.
Nyoni also appeared before the same magistrate charged with failing to report to an immigration officer upon exiting Zimbabwe.
Prosecutor, Takunda Ndovorwi told the court that, on Monday, immigration officials searched Chisanga’s truck and allegedly found Nyoni hiding under a blanket in the cab.
The two allegedly told officers that they were a couple from Zambia, although Nyoni had not sought clearance from the Department of Immigration.
They were both charged with contravening sections of the Immigration Act, but Chisanga denied the charge, saying: “I didn’t intend to take this woman to Zambia. I do not know her.
“I had hired her for sex but l didn’t have enough cash on me to pay her, that’s why l asked her to drive to the border with me so that l withdraw some cash in Livingstone and pay her.”

Nyoni also claimed that she had remained in the truck because she had not been paid for her services.
Chisanga was remanded for trial tomorrow, while Nyoni was remanded in custody to next Wednesday.
