Sergeant Tendai Bota denied the theft charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nyaradzo Ringisayi on Tuesday and was remanded out of custody to today for continuation of trial.

The court heard that on September 2, 2016, Bota was tasked to collect money for recreational and funeral funds from his subordinates, so he could hand it over to the police finance department.

After collecting the money, Bota allegedly converted it to his own use, leading to his arrest following a complaint filed at Mzilikazi Police Station. The money was not recovered.
