Sungura musician Daiton Somanje has vowed that he will not return to his wife and children in Marondera because they deserted him when he was critically ill last year.

He has also accused his son, Fahim, of unsettling his band and plotting his downfall.

Somanje dumped his family last year for his girlfriend in Dzivaresekwa where he has been staying since.

“I had to leave because they did not give me enough care when I was suffering from tuberculosis. I almost died and they were doing very little to attend to me,” said Somanje.

“It was this girlfriend of mine who took much care of me and I had no option but to leave my family in Marondera. I have not gone there for a long time and I will not go there anytime soon.”

But his wife, Anna, has denied the allegations saying the sungura musician is a bed-hopper who is not capable of taking care for his family. She is staying in Marondera with Somanje’s two sons from his first marriage.

“How can a father dump his family like that? I am a step-mother to his children but they understand me very well. Do you think it is proper for someone to say his children are against him when they are in good books with a stepmother?” said Anna.

Fahim concurred with his step-mother.

“My father is lying. He is just trying to justify why he left us. His problem is that he is obsessed with women and he has dumped us because of his girlfriend. I worked well with him when I was part of the band. The problem always came when I told him that he should come home. He did not want to come home and was very cross with me. He wanted to stay with his girlfriend,” said Fahim.

His father has a long list of accusations for him. “Fahim is a problem. He is working in cahoots with his step-mother to sideline me. I had all the trust in him and had tasked him with financial management of the band. He was always swindling money from the band and I realised that he was not concerned about the welfare of the group,” said Somanje.

Somanje said he had chased away his son from the band hoping that he would reform and apologise but Fahim had, instead, gone on to work with one of the guitarists that left his group, Pengaudzoke, to form a splinter outfit.

Somanje last visited his family in November last year and has cut communication with them since. His wife believes the truth will prevail and the world shall see who is wrong.

“I am not worried about what he is doing but I know the truth will be known one day. I was with him throughout his illness and he does not appreciate it. God is faithful and just. The truth shall prevail and it will be open for all to see,” said Anna.

Somanje has gone further to accuse his wife of having an affair with a fellow musician whose name he could not disclose.

His wife admitted that he had raised such allegations but said she did not know the musician in question personally.
