Beitbridge Town Council has repaired its two fire tenders which broke down early this month, it has been learnt.
Council secretary Sipho Singo on Tuesday said the repairs were done in Bulawayo.
“We have repaired both of them and we are partnering with Zimra and Musina town (South Africa) in firefighting,” he said.
“We have also recruited two more fire men to make them three.”
Council partnered with Zimra, which has modern firefighting equipment, in a deal signed last year in April.
The local authority has a memorandum of understanding with the Musina municipality signed in 2004 as part of efforts by the two local authorities to complement each other in disaster management.
Singo said the construction of a fire station at the border town had failed to proceed due to shortage of funds.

“The actual construction of the station has not started because of funding constraints.
“A budget of $150 000 which has been allocated for the project is just a drop in the ocean and a lot of funds are needed here,” Singo said.
The local authority recently hosted fire officials from various towns seeking advice on the elementary plan of the station.
He said the fire station was an urgent requirement in the town considering the number of tankers which passed through it daily.
