The People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) will soon launch a new banking platform that will operate using all mobile networks in the country.
The banking product is currently on the Telecel platform.
POSB chief executive officer Admore Kandlela said the bank is currently carrying a pilot test on the other two mobile phone operators — Econet and NetOne — amid indications that the service will be launched next month.
Kandlela said this new banking platform would be cheaper than other mobile banking services on the market.
“People might be fooled that with Ecocash you don’t need a bank, but you need the structures,” said Kandlela.
POSB marketing manager Hope Marere said the bank was already on mobile banking launched last year on the Telecel platform and now have approached Econet and NetOne.
“We are now working with Econet and NetOne to accommodate all our clients, but currently we are at the pilot testing stage,” said Marere.
She said different banks offer cellphone banking for different reasons, but only POSB was working on this project to offer mobile banking on all networks. Marere said POSB mobile banking enables customers to access their accounts and transact via mobile phones.

“You don’t need to come to the bank, one can be able to pay bills, do balance enquiries, airtime purchase, transfer funds to another POSB account or transfer cash to any cellphone,” said Marere.
Last year, Telecel Zimbabwe partnered with ZimSwitch to offer mobile banking services to the unbanked public.
