Mines Minister Winston Chitando fired

HARARE, Dec. 8 (NewsDay Live) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sacked Winston Chitando from his Cabinet post and appointed Polite Kambamura as the new Minister of Mines and Mining Development, chief secretary Martin Rushwaya has said.

The removal was executed under Section 340(1f), read with Section 108(1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe."

Chitando's former deputy Polite Kambamura was immediately appointed to the post.

"In terms of Section 104, Subsection 1 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President... has appointed Polite Kambamura as Minister of Mines and Mining Development," the release confirmed.

 The mining sector is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe's economy, contributing a major share of foreign exchange earnings.
