A Zimbabwean family has come forward with a distressing appeal, saying they are living in fear following a series of disturbing events that began after the sudden death of a relative in South Africa in November 2024 less than 2 years after her daughter reportedly left for Ireland.
According to the Mutongerwa family, the deceased woman’s daughter had been posting disturbing, cult-like images and videos on social media shortly before her mother’s unexpected passing. On the same day of her passing she posted celebrating her death, laughing and visiting the satanic temple. While the daughter is said to have contributed towards funeral expenses, she refused to return home for the burial.

In February 2026, the family conducted a traditional kurova guva ceremony, a cultural rite intended to bring the spirit of the deceased back home. The daughter was reportedly summoned to attend the ceremony but allegedly failed to appear. Traditional healers present carried out rituals aimed at calming and silencing the spirit, the family claims.
However, relatives say the situation has since deteriorated.
“We are not at peace,” Chiyangwa, the brother of the deceased, said.
The family reports ongoing strange encounters including a relative who suddenly murdered her husband , unexplained illness, sleepless nights, and unsettling disturbances at their homestead. They also allege recent misfortune, including crops being mysteriously destroyed overnight.
Some family members further claim that the daughter, who remains in Ireland, has since purchased a luxury black vehicle, an action they view with suspicion in light of the events surrounding the death.

Traditional healers consulted after the ceremony have reportedly warned that the spirit remains unsettled and that ngozi—a vengeful spirit in Shona belief—may be involved. They have urged that the daughter return home to confess to the matter.
The family is now appealing to the wider Zimbabwean community for urgent assistance, specifically seeking individuals who are spiritually gifted and capable of intervening to resolve what they believe to be a curse affecting their household.
Efforts to contact the daughter for comment were unsuccessful.
