GWERU – MDC-T chief of staff Abisha Nyanguwo (45), who is facing charges of bombing Zanu PF Gweru offices last December, had his bail conditions relaxed yesterday after the State failed to start the trial for the third time.

Gweru magistrate Mildred Mutuvi dismissed the prosecution’s request to have Nyanguwo put on further remand and ordered the State to proceed by way of summons until it put its house in order.

Nyanguwo was out of custody on $500 bail and was ordered to stay at his Mount Pleasant home in Harare, surrender his passport and not to interfer with State witnesses as part of his bail conditions.

The MDC-T official was arrested in March this year after his car was allegedly linked to the bombing incident which took place at the Zanu PF provincial offices in Gweru on December 27 last year.

Prior to his arrest, police stormed Nyanguwo’s home in Harare and confiscated his Isuzu truck claiming the vehicle had been used in committing the alleged crime.

Nyanguwo has however denied the charge. The State alleged that on December 27, 2011, at around 1130 pm, Nyanguwo drove to Zanu PF offices in Gweru where he planted two explosives, ignited them and sped away before they detonated.

The explosives damaged property worth $900.

Soon after the alleged bombing, police pounced on three MDC-T youths accusing them of being involved. The three were later acquitted for lack of evidence. A State witness identified as Archford Tumbare told the court he witnessed the incident, but kept information to himself for fear of reprisals.

Tumbare only reported the matter to the police on March 19 through an affidavit. Bonwell Balamanja is representing the State.
