CHINHOYI — A lustful 24-year-old Chikuti man, who proposed love to a bar attendant and was turned down, later tried to rape her after she went outside the bar to pick up some items, a magistrate has heard. Report by Own Correspondent
The accused Ngonidzaishe Mupingo of Sherry Claim Compound, Chikuti in Chinhoyi, was on Tuesday sentenced to an effective two-year jail term when he appeared before magistrate Ignatius Mugova.
The court heard that on December 10 at Kufaingano Bar, the 24-year-old complainant (name withheld) was at work when she was approached by the accused’s friend identified as Minzi, who informed her that the accused was proposing love to her, but she spurned the advances.
After a while, the complainant went outside to collect a container when Mupingo accosted her and demanded to talk to her in the darkness.
The court further heard that the complainant indicated she was not interested, but this did not go down well with the accused, who grabbed her by the hand, dragged and pinned her against a wall before tripping her to the ground.
Mupingo reportedly throttled the woman and forced himself on top of her while caressing her private parts. However, he was disturbed by a dog which started barking incessantly and he fled the scene. The matter was reported to police, leading to his arrest.
