JAMAICAN dancehall deejay Andrae Sutherland, populary known as Popcaan, is expected in the country today ahead of a show on New Year’s Eve at Harare International Conference Centre.

Report by Tatenda Kunaka Own Correspondent One of the organisers, Clint Robinson, who is the director of C&A Entertainment, said the artiste would arrive this morning.

“Popcaan is arriving on Saturday (today) in the morning. We are expecting his plane to land at Harare international Airport around 9:25am ahead of a live performance on Monday,” said Robinson.

It will be a debut appearance on African soil for the Party Shot hit-maker.

Local dancehall and reggae artistes such as Wallace “Winky D” Chirimuko also known as The Ninja President, the versatile Mike Madamombe aka Mic Inity and Guspy Warrior, among others will share the stage with Popcaan.

On the turntables, the winners of Zim/SA Cup 2012 Clash, Mighty Ducks, will battle it out with the famous sound group Judgment Yard and Gary B.

The Jamaican musician will feature at a welcome party organised for him at Red Fox Hotel tonight.

C&A Entertainment, in conjunction with Chipaz Promotions, teamed up to bring the man of the moment and one of the emerging dancehall stars.

Popcaan rose to fame in 2010 when he featured on Vybz Kartel’s song, Clarks.

The deejay produced chart topping hits Ravin, Party Shot and Only Man She Want.

At the Youth View Awards, he bagged three accolades for Favourite Summer Song, Local Chart Topping Song of the Year and Young Hot and Hype Male.

The visit to Zimbabwe comes at a good time as Popcaan is scheduled to release his debut album next year and a new merchandise line. He will take the opportunity to prepare local fans for his new products.

This year, Popcaan has toured Europe, Canada, Caribbean Islands and South America.

He was also scheduled to perform in Kenya and Uganda this year, but the shows have since been cancelled.
