A 34-YEAR-OLD Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) impostor, Shakespear Chizengwe, is today expected to appear at the Harare Magistrates’ Court where he is facing several charges involving robbery, theft, extortion, impersonation, assault and rape.

Chizengwe pleaded not guilty to all the eight counts of different offences when he initially appeared before regional magistrate Adonia Masawi last week and was remanded in custody after only two complainants testified in the matter.
According to prosecutor Liberty Gono, the alleged offences were committed between July and August this year.
The court heard that in July this year, Chizengwe approached an 18-year-old girl as she withdrew cash from CBZ Bank Karigamombe branch in Harare.
It is alleged Chizengwe followed the girl after which he accused her of having assaulted his child and led the girl to a bushy area between Rekayi Tangwena Avenue and Bishop Gaul Road in Belvedere, where he raped and robbed her of $119, which was part of the money she had withdrawn from the bank.
The court also heard, on a different occasion, Chizengwe allegedly approached another victim Tatenda Poshiwa in town, while posing as a police officer and apprehended Poshiwa claiming he was one of his suspects.
He allegedly took Poshiwa to Harare’s Kopje area, where he demanded from him his bank card and further ordered him to disclose his private PIN number.

After robbing Poshiwa, it is alleged, Chizengwe proceeded to the bank where he withdrew $2 000 from Poshiwa’s account.
As if that was not enough, Chizengwe also approached Chidochashe Munemo, masquerading as a member of the CIO. The court heard, he accused Munemo of assaulting his child during the Harare International Festival of the Arts. He then allegedly ordered Munemo to go with him along Rotten Row where he later robbed him of his cellphone and $304 cash.
The court heard Chizengwe used the same modus operandi and allegedly approached Kelvin Sanayi at Barclays Bank in the city centre again masquerading as a member of the CIO and ordered Sanayi to accompany him to his offices.
As they walked past Harare Gardens, Chizengwe allegedly pulled up his pair of trousers and showed Sanayi a gun-like object, and demanded cash and his cellphone.
The court heard that Chizengwe also stole from Vongai Haisa.
