Jamal died on October 9 in the eastern border city after battling with motor neuron disease.
A year after his passing, fellow musicians have decided to come together to celebrate his life at an event that starts in the afternoon at Courtauld Theatre.
Over 20 artistes are set to perform at the event including Dino Mudondo, Pah Chihera, Taurai Mandebvu, Sani Makhalima, Maskiri, Leonard Mapfumo and many others.
In an interview with NewsDay yesterday, one of the organisers, Henry Tsopotsa, said all the proceeds from the show would be channelled towards the late musician’s family.
“We decided to host the event because artistes often die without security and in the process families will be left without a breadwinner. It is a programme we have just started here in Mutare,” he said.
“We are also eager to host such events for other late musicians. We have the likes of former Aha band singer Paul Makureya, Stobart Chidikano of Assegai Crew and many others and we are happy that many musicians are going to perform at the event on Saturday.

“We want to create a sense of unity in times of need and success among artistes.”
Tsopotsa said they had already communicated with Jamal’s family members who are in support of the initiative.
