Mahwe told the two, who are out on bail, that their trials would commence on June 11, 2015 after the State requested 14 days to secure a Chinese interpreter to facilitate trial.

The duo is charged in terms of contravening Section 5 (1) (a)(i) and (ii) of the Exchange Control Act.

The sections reads: “Subject to subsection (2), a person who, either within or outside Zimbabwe contravenes or fails to comply with any provision of this Act other than section eight; or the terms or conditions of any permit, authority, permission, direction, notice, order or other instrument made or issued under or by virtue of this Act.”

The State alleges that Zhang on several occasions last year transferred or externalised a total of $105 000 from Zimbabwe without approval from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

Juan is also alleged to have siphoned out $85 000 in contravention of the Exchange Control Act.

The two are being represented Harare lawyer Advent Tavenhave.
