Italy and Zimbabwe are moving to deepen their cultural cooperation, with new initiatives aimed at preserving heritage and fostering artistic exchange between the two nations.
The commitment was reaffirmed during celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic in Harare, where diplomats, officials, and cultural leaders gathered to honour the growing relationship.
Speaking at the event, Italian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Giuseppe Giacalone, highlighted ongoing collaboration with the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.
“We are working on a Memorandum of Understanding that will strengthen collaboration between our institutions,” he said.
Italian companies are supporting the refurbishment of the National Gallery and facilitating the restoration and exhibition of important Italian artworks.
“These initiatives reflect our belief that culture can serve as a bridge between people and nations,” Giacalone added.
The celebrations featured a joint fashion exhibition showcasing work by Italian and Zimbabwean designers, reflecting deepening people-to-people connections.
Beyond culture, Giacalone noted Italy’s focus on youth empowerment through skills development and educational exchanges.
