Local News

The Parliament Public Accounts Committee has concluded its seventh oversight and verification visit of entities under the Mutapa Investment Fund at the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company in Chiadzwa, Mutare.

In a statement released after the visit, Parliament said members of the committee conducted extensive inspections of mining operations at ZCDC as part of efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in State-linked enterprises.

“The Public Accounts Committee yesterday concluded its seventh oversight and verification visit of entities under the Mutapa Investment Fund at the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in Chiadzwa, Mutare, focusing on audit compliance, corporate governance and financial accountability,” Parliament said.

The committee, which is mandated to scrutinise the expenditure and administration of public resources, was taken through various operational processes at the diamond mining company during the visit.

“During the visit, Members of the Committee were briefed on geological samples and diamond-bearing ore during a guided tour of ZCDC mining operations,” Parliament said.

Legislators also toured sections involved in the processing and preparation of diamonds for the market, gaining insight into the company’s value chain and operational systems.

“The visit ended with a tour at ZCDC’s Sort House and Deep Boiling section, where Honourable Members were shown how diamonds are cleaned, sorted and prepared for valuation and sale,” the statement read.

The oversight visit forms part of Parliament’s ongoing efforts to ensure State-owned enterprises and entities under the Mutapa Investment Fund comply with public finance management regulations and maintain sound corporate governance standards.
