President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea is set to arrive in Zimbabwe this weekend for a high-level State Visit at the invitation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade confirmed that the two-day visit will take place from May 9 to 10, 2026.

The mission follows Mnangagwa’s own visit to Equatorial Guinea in February 2023 and aims to strengthen the enduring bonds of friendship between the two nations.

The visit will be anchored by the inaugural session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC).

Co-chaired by Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister Amon Murwira, and his Equatorial Guinean counterpart, Simeon Oyono Sono Angue, the commission is tasked with turning diplomatic goodwill into concrete economic action.

Senior officials from both governments are already meeting in Harare on beginning today to prepare the groundwork for the leaders' deliberations.

According to the Ministry, talks will focus on reviewing progress on agreements signed three years ago while exploring fresh opportunities in critical sectors including energy, mining, transport, agriculture, fisheries, investment, and tourism.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Philisiwe Chidawanyika said the visit underscores a commitment to deepening cooperation not only at bilateral level but also within continental and multilateral frameworks.

"His Excellency Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe warmly welcome His Excellency President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and his delegation," the statement read.

The visit is expected to result in the signing of further Memoranda of Understanding as the two countries seek more mutually beneficial partnerships in the digital and physical economy.
