FREDA Rebecca Gold Mine Limited (FRGM) has lodged a formal criminal complaint with the police against individuals illegally operating within its mining lease, the company announced in a public notice.

Managing Director Patrick Maseva-Shayawabaya stated that the complaint, filed under RRB number 63892257, targets unauthorized miners extracting gold ore from specific areas within Mining Lease 21 (ML21).

"The conduct of mining by persons within this region without authority is a criminal offence and will inevitably invoke the long arm of the law," Shayawabaya said in the notice, citing sections 368(1) and 368(4) of the Mines and Minerals Act.

The affected areas, collectively known as the Western Side, include Gwiringwindi, Headgear, Morocco, and the GMB area within FRGM's legally held lease, registered under Surveyor General Number 1845/1994.

The notice includes a caution to the public, advising any persons currently operating within ML21 without written consent to contact FRGM to verify their status and complete necessary documentation to legalise their operations.

“Only persons who have presented their details for verification and filled in the necessary documentation will be deemed immune from criminal prosecution,” Shayawabaya said.

The company has set aside a two-day period, from 28 to 29 January 2026, for individuals to visit the mine site for a verification process. They are required to bring national identification, any relevant maps, GPS coordinates, or agreements.
