PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa special investment adviser Paul Tungwarara has pledged to drill 100 boreholes in Makoni Central constituency, throwing his weight behind Zanu PF shadow legislator Shepherd Nyika whom he described as a focused and capable politician.
Tungwarara, who was recently recommended by the Zanu PF leadership in Manicaland province to the party’s central committee, made the remarks in Rusape recently after distributing US$25 000 to five constituencies in Makoni district.
Makoni is one of the biggest districts in the country with five constituencies — Makoni West, North, South, Central and Headlands.
Tungwarara said development in Makoni Central hinged on the support for Nyika.
“In Makoni Central, if you want your problems to end, you should support Shepherd Nyika. It’s me who is saying that. I started to know this man a long time ago and he is focused,” he said.
“If you support him, we are going to see development. We are not waiting to bring development because he did not win the election.
“I am going to see President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the issue of Shepherd Nyika and l am going to drill 100 boreholes in support of him.”
Tungwarara said the government had instituted measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of empowerment funds.

Some of the constituencies that benefited in Manicaland are Chipinge East, Central, South, Mutema, Musikavanhu, Buhera East, West, Central and North, among others.
Tungwarara’s remarks drew an enthusiastic response from Zanu PF supporters, who surged towards the podium and ushered Nyika onto the dance floor.
Nyika, who is the Zanu PF Makoni district coordinating committee secretary for lands, said the empowerment fund and borehole programme would significantly improve livelihoods in Makoni Central.
“The funds will be directed towards the grassroots as there are a lot of unfinished empowerment programmes that are going to be funded,” Nyika said. “We are going to scale up empowerment initiatives in the constituency.”
