Zanu PF national spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has declared that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership was unchallenged, saying the ruling party ends the year ‘more united, disciplined and electorally dominant.’
Speaking at what he said was the party's last press conference of the year at the Zanu PF headquarters, Mutsvangwa said Mnangagwa had successfully steered the party through what some had predicted would be a “watershed year”.
“We have crossed this year, which many felt would be a watershed year for Zimbabwe. He has shepherded the Zimbabwean revolution with acumen, and we have crossed the year with very united leadership. His authority in the party is unchallenged,” he said.
Mutsvangwa pointed to resolutions adopted at the party’s Manicaland conference as proof of Mnangagwa’s firm grip on the party.
“There was not even a challenge in the corridors of the deliberations. It was a unanimous decision. So, this is the ultimate acumen of leadership, being demonstrated by President E.D. Mnangagwa, the first secretary of ZANU PF.”
Mutsvangwa also pointed to a series of party meetings held in recent weeks including the Politburo, Central Committee and Consultative Assembly, as further evidence of unity and discipline within the ruling party.
“In all those meetings, the authority of the President was evident. Everybody is dancing according to the codes of the leadership of the party, in this orchestra of harmony which is ZANU PF,” he said.
“For those who entertained ideas about where ZANU PF would go, we are living up to the billing of a 60-year-old revolutionary party shaping the destiny of the people of Zimbabwe,” Mutsvangwa said.
