Binga is being left behind

BINGA South legislator, Fanuel Cumanzala, says his constituency remains “left behind,” directly challenging the government’s development agenda.

While acknowledging the national goals of 6.6% growth and the promise that “no one and no place will be left behind,” Cumanzala stated that the reality in Binga and the Zambezi Valley tells a different story.

He outlined a crisis in basic services and infrastructure that is undermining livelihoods and education.

“The district suffers from recurring water and electricity shortfalls,” Cumanzala told Southern Eye.

“Residents have gone without reliable water supplies for weeks at a time, at times forced to draw water from the crocodile-infested Zambezi River.”

He highlighted several critical areas of failure, which include dilapidated roads, shortages of schools and clinics and other basic services.

Cumanzala called for a shift from national promises to “concrete deliverables.”

“The vision set by the president is laudable. But vision becomes meaningful only when translated into bricks, roads, pumps, schools, jobs and dignified lives,” Cumanzala said.

“For the people of Binga, this is not just a matter of policy—it is a matter of survival, dignity and opportunity.”
