THE City of Bulawayo has applauded private players for investing in the education, saying such partnerships are key to improving access to quality learning, especially in underserved areas like Cowdray Park.
Speaking at the speech and prize giving day at Prestige High School on Friday, Bulawayo deputy mayor Edwin Ndlovu said the city greatly valued the role played by private institutions in complementing government efforts to improve education infrastructure.
“The City of Bulawayo greatly appreciates the investment in education by the directors and management of Prestige High School,” he said.
“Cowdray Park is one of the areas that requires more schools and this investment proves the importance of public-private partnerships in the delivery of quality education.”
Ndlovu noted that Cowdray Park has experienced rapid population growth over the years, creating high demand for schools, particularly at primary level.
He said the city’s master plan included provision for the construction of more schools in such high-density suburbs.
“We call upon stakeholders such as yourselves to ensure that we build more schools for quality education of our children and reducing the teacher-pupil ratio,” Ndlovu said.
“Some primary schools have now become three-in-one institutions, which is not sustainable.”

He encouraged other private players to emulate Prestige High School in contributing to the education sector, saying the future of the city depends on nurturing knowledgeable and skilled learners.
“This is not just about infrastructure,” he said.
“It’s about shaping the future through education and ensuring our children learn in an environment that motivates excellence.”
Ndlovu congratulated learners who received awards, praising them for their hard work, resilience and determination.
“Each prize that has been handed today is a reflection of the many hours of study, practice and determination you have invested,” he said.
The deputy mayor further acknowledged the sacrifices made by parents and teachers in supporting learners, stating that the awards are a celebration of the school community’s collective effort.
