ED demands comprehensive reports on empowerment funds

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has demanded that the party’s wings that benefited from presidential empowerment programmes should come up with comprehensive reports, amid reports of looting of funds and incomplete and unfulfilled projects.

The President this year launched various empowerment projects targeted at war veterans, youth and women’s leagues including party affiliates.

However, speaking during the party’s politburo meeting at the party headquarters in Harare yesterday, Mnangagwa said he was expecting beneficiaries of the presidential schemes to come up with comprehensive reports on the funds.

“It is my expectation that following the launch of the various empowerment schemes, the respective wings of the party will at the appropriate time, provide us with comprehensive reports on the success stories,” he said.

“It is in the best interest of the party that successful case studies of women and youth-led projects be documented as well as shared across districts and provinces for the purposes of learning and propelling us forward, as Zanu PF we want to see projects village by village, ward by ward district by district, province by province growing.”

The funds have reportedly divided the party amid reports of looting by those occupying top positions.

Mnangagwa reiterated his call against corruption.

“Corruption of any kind and excesses that alienate us from the people can never be condoned. Integrity, discipline and unity, concern for the people and clean governance must be synonymous with Zanu PF,” he said.

“As provided for in our constitution, we have a duty to boldly and decisively deal with those who put the name of the party into disrepute.”

Mnangagwa commended party provinces and district structures consolidating their discussions in preparation for the upcoming national people’s conference.

“I am pleased that the party machinery is demonstrating concerted re-focusing and re-calibration, at all levels, to achieve,” he said.

The ruling party is holding its national people’s conference in Mutare next month.
