Esigodini man in court for rape, robbery

A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Bafazi Village in Esigodini has appeared in court facing charges of rape and robbery.

Patson Ndlovu (33) appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Taurai Manuwero charged with raping and robbing a nurse who was on her way to work.

He pleaded not guilty to both allegations and was remanded out of custody to Monday September 15, 2025 for further hearing.

The nurse (33) told the court that she was able to identify Ndlovu during the time when he was dragging her to the bushes, even though he had attempted to cover her face during the attack.

“He is short and has a wound next to his nose,” she testified.

“I saw him before he covered my face and that is the man who raped me.”

The court was told that on October 28, 2022, the nurse was ambushed by Ndlovu while on her way to work in the evening because she was on night duty.

She noticed him walking ahead of her, but after losing sight of him briefly, Ndlovu allegedly reappeared from the bushes near a railway bridge.

Armed with an axe, he is said to have ordered her to stop before grabbing her by the hand and dragging her into the bush.

It is alleged that Ndlovu forced her to lie down, covered her face with his worksuit jacket, undressed her and raped her.

After the assault, he reportedly used her umbrella to shield her face while he searched her handbag.

Ndlovu stole US$20 in cash from her bag before fleeing the scene.

Traumatised and injured, she sought help and was taken to hospital, where a medical examination was conducted and a medical report was compiled and is tendered in court as evidence.

A police report was made, which led to Ndlovu’s arrest.
