THE Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) says it has disbursed ZiG6,1 billion for roadworks across the country, a move that is directly funding critical infrastructure projects like the ongoing dualisation of the Harare-Mazowe Road.
Zinara board chairperson George Manyaya said funding for the national road rehabilitation drive will continue.
“So far, we have disbursed ZiG6,1 billion for road works across the country, and funds are still there for works to continue as we move ahead to fulfil our mandate,” Manyaya told NewsDay.
He said the financial injection is part of the government’s broader Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP2), which has to date rehabilitated over 50 000 kilometres of road and attended to 2 000 structures.
The Harare-Mazowe Road dualisation, a major beneficiary of the ZiG6,1 billion disbursement, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Exodus & Company engineer Alex Mashangu said the company remains committed to meeting the project timelines for the Harare-Mazowe Road dualisation project.
“Currently, we are working on the second section of the Harare-Mazowe Road from the New Parliament access road to Blueridge,” Mashangu said during an assessment tour of the road construction project.
“The plan is to be done by December, and the parallel works will continue into Mazowe.

“Those works will be completed in September next year.
“We have ensured that we construct a durable road which will last for about 15 years without any potholes if maintained well.”
Transport and Infrastructural Development deputy minister Joshua Sacco said the ministry targets building durable roads and boosting confidence in local contractors.
The upgraded infrastructure is also seen as vital for economic growth, facilitating trade with neighbouring countries like Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sacco said the disbursement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the nation’s infrastructural needs through sustained and strategic funding.
Government has so far rehabilitated and reconstructed over 50 000 kilometres of roads and attended to at least 2 000 structures under the second phase of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme.
