Crynoce Mwanamutsvene had denied the allegations, but Chivasa in her ruling pointed out that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused person from the two witnesses who testified against him.

A 37-YEAR-OLD security guard was yesterday sentenced to 15 years in prison by Harare magistrate Esther Chivasa for raping a 12-year-old girl.

Crynoce Mwanamutsvene had denied the allegations, but Chivasa in her ruling pointed out that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused person from the two witnesses who testified against him.

According to court papers, on January 6, at around 4am, Mwanamutsvene entered the dining room where the minor was asleep together with two others.

The accused allegedly raped the girl who was reportedly fast asleep.

It is reported that the minor’s aunt woke up and caught the accused in the act before raising the alarm.

After realising that he had been caught red-handed, Mwanamutsvene pretended to be drunk and lay on the floor.

A police report was filed leading to the arrest of the accused.
