A FIGTREE man has been jailed for assaulting a woman who had rejected his love proposal.

The matter came to light at the Plumtree Magistrates’ Courts yesterday where Levison Dube appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing malicious damage of property and assault charges.

Dube pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in jail for the two crimes.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa told the court that on January 20 last year, Dube approached his neighbour and proposed love saying he was sex starved.

The neighbour turned down the proposal which prompted him to severely assault her.

The woman was rushed to hospital and while she was admitted, Dube returned to her house and set it on fire.

Property worth US$3 000 was destroyed in the inferno.
