Less than a week after Ziscosteel employees received a windfall in numerous months’ salaries and wages, two local great sungura musicians will descend on the once sleepy town of Redcliff to host a joint show this Sunday.
Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo and Aleck Macheso will be belting it out at Ziscosteel Club in a town which has experienced entertainment drought since Winky D performed there in December last year.
The dearth of entertainment has mainly been due to the lack of dollar power of the Ziscosteel workers in Redcliff, Rutendo and Torwood who had gone for a long spell without getting paid.
Dhewa and his Utakataka Express will be looking forward to promoting their album Toita Basa since they have not performed in the mining town since its release.
His performance will be part of what has become his trademark show title, “The Return of Igwe” owing to his on-and-off gigs as he battles a life-threatening cancer.
The Kwekwe-based artist had taken a break in early April to undergo treatment and has just resumed his work as he tries to keep entertaining loyal fans.
Utakataka sound engineer and assistant manager Sukolubi Dube confirmed that the two giants who for a long time seemed to be at each other’s throats will be in Redcliff for the Sunday show.
“The two will share the stage this Sunday in a show initiated by Macheso’s group and as we speak we are putting final touches to our act. We want to promise our fans a flawless and exciting show as usual,” said Dube.

Macheso will face Kwekwe fans for the first time since the start of controversy around his latest third marriage to his former housemaid Adeline Hunidzarira.
Most fans will be eager to see if the unfolding drama has not affected the musician’s stage work.
