All is set for the NewsDay 1st Anniversary Bash that is slated for the Harare Gardens on Saturday.
The gig will witness a headline performance by legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi and he will share the stage with other established and upcoming local musicians that include Edith WeUtonga and Munya Mataruse.
It will be Mtukudzi’s first time performing at a family show in Harare in six years. He last played at the Harare Gardens in 2005 at the Tuku and Friends concert that featured South African musicians Ringo Madlingozi and Yvonne Chaka Chaka as well as the late Amon Mvula.
The Bulawayo Kwela Calabash and popular dub poet Albert Nyathi will again showcase their flare and have a chance to rock the audience just like they did in their collaboration at the Harare International Festival of Arts this year.
Bulawayo Kwela Calabash features the music of the 50s and 60s dominated by the kwela music genre mainly characterised by the pennywhistle.
These musically highly-skilled elders are contemporaries of the Cool Crooners of the Bhulugwe Lami fame and have been playing individually or in duets at beer gardens in Bulawayo for many decades.
Nyathi rated their musical skill highly and promised an exciting performance.
“I have travelled around the world and this is one of the groups that have the talent to expose the wealth we have in Zimbabwe musically,” said Nyathi.

Fashionable R’n’B diva Cindy Munyavi together with urban grooves rapper, Stunner of Timhu Hombe fame have also been included in the line-up to celebrate NewsDay’s successes.
The event will be followed by a private function in the capital on the same day where NewsDay stakeholders and clients will toast to the daily paper’s success.

An official from Tuku Music Promotions, organisers of the gig, said they were honoured to partner with NewsDay in such a prestigious event.
