Stage to the sundowner, the most culturally rich weekend of 2026

HARARE is offering its residents something genuinely rare this weekend: a cultural programme so broad and thoughtfully curated that it reads less like a social calendar and more like a statement of intent.

Still playing: I Don't Want to Die

The weekend's opening act is already well underway. Running from yesterday through today at REPS Theatre Upstairs in Belgravia, Chantelle Phindile Moyo's original play, produced by Purple Brain Productions in collaboration with one of Zimbabwe's oldest amateur theatrical companies, is a searingly personal piece of work.

Tickets at US$10 are available AT spotlight.co.zw.

Today

Saturday is the busiest weekend day. The variety on offer is wide enough to suggest that Harare's entertainment economy has quietly diversified beyond what it was even a year ago.

The morning belongs to Jazz and Pilates at Poise Studio, a curated experience running from 1115am to 3pm that pairs a live pilates session with live jazz and brunch. It is hosted in collaboration with musician Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana and represents a growing appetite in Harare for wellness experiences that are also cultural ones.

From 130pm, the afternoon softens into something quieter at Maize and Mingle Café on Arcturus Road. Silent Book Club Harare returns for another edition, free to attend on a bring-your-own-book basis. The event's tagline — where solitude meets community and books become icebreakers — captures the mood precisely.

For those who prefer their social afternoon hands-on and a little messier, Afronomads brings their Pizza and Prosecco experience to Harare from 5pm to 8pm. The immersive pizza-making session includes complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and is priced at US$35 a head. The location is released on booking, available on +263 775 935 435 or +263 774 243 045.

The night tips firmly toward the dancefloor. Strictly Soul, billed as Africa's biggest R&B party, takes up residence at La Parada on Bay Noakes Road in Rolf Valley from 7pm until 1am. DJs Akio and special guests are behind the decks for an evening of smooth vibes. Tickets are available on quicket.co.za.

Tomorrow

Sunday opens with an invitation to think. Unpacked, a free art conversation at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe at 20 Julius Nyerere Way, brings together artists Romeo Chihanga and Kudakwashe Chakwanda from 11am. There is no charge to attend.

The afternoon belongs to Sol: A Sundowner Experience, which unfolds from 2pm until late at Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, the five-star property that has anchored the city's hospitality landscape since 1915. The event features music sets from some of Zimbabwe's best Afrohouse and Amapiano DJs, led by Bhana Chinchilla alongside Samuel Cosmic, Tapiwa Spunj, Pretty Gangsta, Shay Shay, and Andile Brown.
