A sound born from passion: The rise of Intotal Band

Life & Style
The rise of Intotal Band

WHAT started as a simple idea between two friends in 2014 has grown into one of Zimbabwe’s most compelling live music experiences.

When Dr Joseph Chinouriri and his friend Naphtali first came together to form a band for a single event, they had no idea they were laying the foundation for something far greater.

One festival booking led to another.

More musicians were called in, chemistry formed, a vision sharpened and just like that, Intotal Band was born.

From the beginning, the mission was clear: creating meaningful, creative opportunities for musicians while delivering music that speaks directly to the people.

“The desire was to create meaningful and creative opportunities for musicians.”

Over the years, that mission has matured into a brand built on consistency, perseverance, and laser-sharp focus.

Unlike many groups that crumble under creative differences, Intotal Band thrives on them.

With multiple talented and highly creative members, the band admits their process is not always easy.

But what sets them apart is their ability to listen, respect each other’s opinions, and move forward as one.

“It’s not easy, as we have very creative and talented people in the group, but we choose unity,”Chinouriri said.

That discipline has transformed them from a festival act into a seasoned live powerhouse.

Their performances don’t just entertain, they educate, shape and refine the band’s direction.

Each show becomes a master class in understanding what resonates with their audience.

“Live performances have been a defining factor in the band’s growth, shaping their sound and strengthening their confidence,” he said.

It is on stage where their identity truly sharpens.

Inspired by legends, rooted in culture, the Intotal Band does not shy away from acknowledging the giants who paved the way.

Their sound carries echoes of Zimbabwe’s rich musical heritage, particularly the timeless influence of Oliver Mtukudzi and the signature Tuku Music that shaped generations.

They grew up under that music. They absorbed it.

And now, they channel that inspiration into something contemporary yet deeply rooted in culture.

Music, they insist, belongs to the people.

“Music is for the people, and people connect to what they relate to,” he said.

That philosophy drives every melody, every lyric, every live set.

No single turning point, just relentless growth

Like all artists they have also faced their fair share of challenges and setbacks, but they remain consistent and true to their sound.

“In the music business, we face a lot of challenges.

“It’s a learning curve for everyone.

“The big question is whether you are able to stand and keep going when you have fallen,” he said.

Now, the band is gearing up for major appearances that promise to further cement their reputation on Zimbabwe’s entertainment calendar.

They are set to perform at Ecobank Legends Night in on April 11 at the Harare International Conference Centre, followed by the Bulawayo edition on June 13 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds.

For a band that measures success not by numbers but by impact, these stages represent more than events.

They are platforms to connect whether with one person or one million.

In an industry where many chase trends, Intotal Band is building something that is everlasting, a mature brand grounded in culture, unity, and an unshakable love for the craft.

From a once-off event in 2014 to commanding some of the country’s biggest stages, their journey is proof that when passion meets perseverance, something extraordinary happens.

And for Intotal Band, this is only the beginning.
