A night of prayer, passion and possibility: Between Knees and Dreams set to lift spirits at ZCM

Between Knees and Dreams

As the sun sets on December 6, a quiet kind of magic will settle over the Zimbabwe College of Music (ZCM).

It’s the kind of magic that grows in the space between hope and hardship, the very space the show’s creator calls Between Knees and Dreams.

For the artiste behind the production, Tapsle, the title is more than poetic. It’s a reflection of his own journey.

“It represents the space between vulnerability and aspiration,” he said.

“It’s about finding strength in weakness and trusting the journey.”

Tapsle words are gentle but firm; the voice of someone who has tasted both doubt and triumph.

He admits that the title carries a personal weight. “It reminds me to stay grounded and focused on my goals, even when faced with challenges,” the artiste said.

And it’s this honesty that he hopes will connect him deeply with audiences.

“I want people to leave feeling inspired, uplifted and connected  to the music and to each other.”

The show itself was born from a desire to create something bigger than a performance. He imagined a space where music, prayer and community breathe together.

“I wanted to create an immersive experience that showcases our artistry and builds a sense of community,” Tapsle said, a vision that guided him through every detail.

Choosing the Zimbabwe College of Music wasn’t accidental. The venue has long been the cradle of talent and he hoped to honour that legacy.

“It’s a hub for creativity and talent,” he said. “It just felt right.”

But like every dream worth pursuing, this one came with its own storms. Coordinating artistes, schedules and resources tested his patience and resolve. Still, he never lost sight of the mission.

“It’s been a challenge, but it’s definitely been worth it.”

Spirituality, he reveals, isn’t just an add-on to his artistry, it sits at the core of who he is.

“It guides my purpose and inspiration,” he said.

He recalls one of his deepest “knees” moments: a period of self-doubt that brought him almost to breaking point. But that moment became a turning point.

“It made me realise the importance of perseverance and faith,” he said, a truth that many dreamers will recognise.

On the other side of that valley was his “dreams” moment: stepping on stage for the first time, feeling the crowd, feeling seen. “That was the moment I felt validated,” he said, the memory lighting up his face.

On stage, he lets himself feel but also trusts his preparation. “It’s about being authentic and open,” he explained. “And believing in the work I’ve done.”

For the show, he handpicked artistes he believed will add flavour, depth and heart.

“I chose performers who share my vision,” Tapsle said. “Each one brings their own style and energy.”

There’s even a special collaboration lined up, which he says is close to his heart.

But perhaps the biggest dream behind Between Knees and Dreams is to inspire young Zimbabwean artistes who often feel unseen.

“I hope this event empowers them to pursue their passions,” he said.

He knows events like these don’t happen in isolation. Community support and sponsorship have been the backbone of the production. “It’s crucial,” he said. “It’s what keeps art alive.”

And this night, he hopes, will be the first of many.

“I’d love to make it an annual tradition,” he said, a promise of growth, evolution and continuity.

As for his own path, he isn’t slowing down. New music is on the way and he’s working on projects that blend music with other art forms, an exciting step towards the global stage he dreams of.

If his life were a song, he says it would be titled Rise Above.

This would be a befitting name for a man who has knelt, dreamed, and risen again and again.
