Chitsiga, who is the director of the film, told NewsDay Life & Style that he yearns to highlight social issues through film exposing bad behaviour adopted by people as well as encouraging good habits for people to live in harmony.

FILMMAKER Munashe Chitsiga revealed how jealousy, infidelity and greed tear families apart in his production Nhaka Yeupenyu.

Chitsiga, who is the director of the film, told NewsDay Life & Style that he yearns to highlight social issues through film exposing bad behaviour adopted by people as well as encouraging good habits for people to live in harmony.

“I love to tell stories that entertain and provoke the audience, highlighting social issues. I want to tell authentic stories that our people can relate with, for example through our production Nhaka Yeupenyu, we explored issues like kuromba (rituals) and kugara nhaka, I feel those things exist in our communities,” he said.

The story unfolds around the Matamba family as it grapples with an inheritance war over real estate.

Tonderai, facing hard times at his struggling mine, returned to his childhood home where his younger brother, Tichafa and his wife Gugu lived.

As Tonderai settled back in the family, a silent war erupted between the brothers, fuelled by jealousy. Meanwhile, their mother wages her own independent battle, adding to the family turmoil.

Besides Nhaka Yeupenyu, Chitsiga made feature films titled The Lamb and Maria and Drug Mafia directed by Kuda Bryan Bwititi that were shown on ZBCtv and Zambezi Magic.

The Lamb and Maria was nominated at the Sotambe Film Festival in Zambia.
