Soldier killed in road accident

BY NIZBERT MOYO A soldier believed to be an attaché at the Zimbabwean embassy in Botswana died on the spot on Tuesday after the vehicle he was traveling in lost control, veered off the road and hit a tree along Plumtree road near Emganwini turn-off in Bulawayo.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident and said he was still waiting for more details.

It is believed that the soldier was travelling with his wife when the accident occurred.

Bulawayo City Council’s acting chief fire officer Lynos Phiri said the accident happened along Plumtree road near Emganwini turn-off

“The driver who is said to be a Defence attaché at the Zimbabwean embassy in Botswana died on the spot. His wife aged 56 suffered soft tissue injuries and was conveyed to Mater Dei Hospital,” Phiri said.

He said the soldier was driving a Toyota Hillux twin cab vehicle.
