JAZZ music fans are in for a treat tomorrow as local events and artiste management company Ngoma Nehosho and its partners host the inaugural virtual Jabulani Jazz Festival that will feature local artistes.

Ngoma Nehosho, led by Walter Wanyanya, has partnered with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), Hyundai Zimbabwe, Old Mutual and CredSure for the virtual showcase that coincides with International Jazz Day.

Wanyanya said they planned to make the event an annual jazz fete.

“While the inaugural edition of the Jabulani Jazz Festival will be a virtual one because of the current pandemic, however, we plan to make this an annual event.

“This year Unesco celebrates 10 years of this amazing showcase and we are proud to join the rest of the world in uniting people through music,” he said.

“With the help and assistance of Unesco in partnership with Hyundai Zimbabwe, Old Mutual and CredSure, the Jabulani Jazz Festival will feature three young musicians Sylent Nqo, TakaNeMachinda and Mimmie Tarukwana all from Zimbabwe.”

Wanyanya said as part of the festival, today there would be a virtual artiste development workshop for musicians, music managers and music producers among others.

The workshop would be funded by Old Mutual Foundation, CredSure and Unesco.

“Each of our festivals opens with artiste development workshops that are geared to making sure our artistes are in the loop with the latest trends in the music business.

“We believe education and sharing of knowledge among creatives plays a key role in growing our creative economy in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“The panel of speakers on this day (today) include booking agents, festival directors, jazz artiste managers and media practitioners from South Africa, Zimbabwe, United States of America, Spain and Senegal.”

Wanyanya said the workshop was an opportunity for artistes to ask questions about how they could improve their craft and get more information on the entertainment industry as a whole, adding that fans would follow the discussions by logging in on Ngoma Nehosho Facebook page.

“There are two sessions and the first one is a financial education workshop facilitated by Kudzai Mubaiwa representing Old Mutual starting at midday to 1330hrs via the Ngoma Nehosho Facebook page,” he said.

“The Unesco creative community workshop in partnership with CredSure themed Gateway to the Global stage and growing the Creative Economy will be the second of the day on the Ngoma Nehosho Facebook page at 1500 – 1630hrs.

“This workshop is designed to help those in the arts sector to discover paths and opportunities in the global creative economy.”

He said the workshop would provide lessons on how to get booked, signed, airplay, tour management, digital income streams so as to effectively take part in the global creative economy.

Speakers at the workshops will include Ignacio Priego a music consultant (Spain/South Africa), Allan Sixpence (operations manager CredSure  Zimbabwe), Katherine McVicker founder and director of Music Works international (USA), Dudu Sarr (artiste manager for Youssou Ndour  and founder Dakar Music Market (Senegal), Munya Chanetsa A&R manager Sony ATV Music Publishing Africa, Josiah Kusena deputy director National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, artiste manager for Mokoomba and Jacaranda Music Festival manager Marcus Gora while So Profound will be the moderator.
