A HARARE motorist was yesterday summoned to appear in court after he allegedly crashed into Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s motorcade along Glenara Avenue and Samora Machel Avenue in November last year.

Dennis Chiwawa (57) of Ukhozi Transport appeared before Richard Ramaboa, who remanded the matter to March 4 for trial.

According to the prosecutor Moses Mapanga, on November 23 last year, Chiwawa was driving a Toyota Corolla vehicle along Samora Machel Avenue due west.

The complainant, Pepukai Chimire, an employee of the President’s Office was driving a Toyota Hilux Revo due south along Glenara Avenue. He was driving the lead vehicle in Chiwenga’s motorcade.

It is alleged that upon approaching the traffic light-controlled intersection at Samora Machel and Glenara, Chiwawa drove past a red traffic light before hitting the vehicle driven by Chimire on the front and rear passenger doors, causing a dent on the rear door.

Chiwawa’s vehicle sustained minor damage on the front bumper, bonnet, right lamp and fender. The State alleges that Chiwawa failed to look out for the robot-controlled intersection and failed to stop when the accident seemed imminent.
