Khupe organises elective congress

EMBATTLED MDC-T deputy president, Thokozani Khupe, has announced plans to hold a special congress next month where she hopes to be endorsed as substantive leader of the party’s breakaway faction.

By NQOBANI NDLOVU

Khupe’s personal assistant, Witness Dube, confirmed the development yesterday.

“We are working on the logistics, but definitely the congress is on in April and we will be advising on the specific date and venue in due course,” he said.

This comes at a time the MDC-T national council meets today to decide her fate, amid indications she could be expelled for refusing to recognise the appointment of Nelson Chamisa as party leader following the death of founder Morgan Tsvangirai last month.

Khupe’s aide dismissed moves to expel Khupe from the MDC-T as a joke.

“The horse has bolted. They can as well continue with their illegality as expected but we are in full election mode to contest power from the ruling Zanu PF,” he said.
Chamisa was recently endorsed as MDC-T leader and presidential candidate by the party’s national council, but Khupe has refused to recognise him, dismissing his elevation as an illegality.

Khupe — who argues she is the rightful acting MDC-T leader on grounds of being the only elected deputy president — last week signalled she was cutting ties with Chamisa.
The MDC-T has suffered several splits which analysts also cite as the reason why the opposition party has failed to garner enough votes to dislodge Zanu PF from power.
The divisions in the MDC-T emanate from the time the MDC-T Alliance — a grouping of opposition parties — was unveiled, with Khupe contesting its structure and composition particularly on the sharing of parliamentary seats in the elections.

Khupe argues Tsvangirai never consulted her, adding the MDC-T did not need a blanket alliance, but only a coalition where it has fared badly in elections and not in Matabeleland where the opposition party has been dominant since the turn of the millennium.

  3. See you next time when you will be knocking at the same Chamisa’s door. Very soon you reality will dawn on you. Even those you have been conniving with will be the source of your problems. To me you are not a flexible leader hence I see you lasting only three months.

  4. I am begining to believe that what Thokzani Khupe is doing is something that was planned a long time ago.If you look at it she had already in bad books with the late MDC T leader Morgan Tsvangirai before his sad death and she is continuing to be controversial with Nelson Chamisa. Its a well calculated move to cause division in MDC T ahead of the watershed elections in 2015.She is soldiering on with her controversy despite the glaring fact that she does not command any meaningful support among the electorate compared to Chamisa.Zanu pf can pour in millions to pay such people like Khupe as long as they do their job well.If they could pay $10 million for the an assasination what can stop them from paying Khupe a few millions to cause havoc in the MDC T?She knows she is fighting a loosing battle but because there is money involved she keeps on putting a brave face trying to move a mountain.Nxaa!

  6. You are just shortsighted Kupe. Go ahead and destroy your political carrier. With the way you have shown us that you are a very rigid leader with no petite to accept opposing views, you may not last more than 3 months in this game. Very soon the very people you have in your cockpit will turn against you sighting lack of vision and direction as well as dictatorial tendencies. Chamisa will have the last lough.

    Way to go, my girl!!!

  8. Khupe is killing here political career , she must learn from Gwisai, Biti, Sikhala and others who once defected from MDC. R.G Mugabe was right when he said zviroto zviroto

  9. Khupe is doing what Chamisa failed to do – hold a national congress but will she succeed? An elective national congress demonstrates transparency and democracy., this is a fact….not anointment.

    1. It is also a fact that the MDCT constitution allows its NEC to make decisions inbetween Congress. Her elective Congress will not have the blessing of MDC T NEC and will not have all PECs either thus rendering it a non-event. She and her cabal are being ‘fired’ from MDC T today thus barring her from anything that’s MDC remember she has already been barred from getting anyway nearer BYO provincial offices. One wonders why she was going for a Provinvial office when she sees herself as the legit Morgan’s replacement… why couldnt she go for Harvet House.

    2. People choose to run away from facts,Khupe is on the right trackj.

      1. isn’t it interesting when the NC made decisions in past years..in between Congresses..she didn’t have a problem with it.Now that it affects her she cries about the constitution, forgetting that same constitution gives NC power to make decisions…even the Congress she talked about, it’s the NC that makes such a decision. Chamisa akamhanya nechimuti kare, ana UN, ana EU who are they meeting? who did ED congratulate as one of the presidential candidates? it’s unfortunate she didn’t wake up from her slumber and live to fight another year. She can learn a thing or two from Abraham Lincoln about politics

    3. WE TWO DIFFERENT PARTIES MY DEAR YUO AREV VERY LOST

Go well Madame Khupe.U destroyed yourself.

  11. Comment…khupe ziva pekutambira ukadzikama unororeka

  12. Let her go on. This is what democracy entails. This is where she will lose convincingly and we settle the matter once and for all. Nonetheless, the woman has proven to be a hard nut to crack. No wonder Tsvangirai opted for parallel VPs.

  13. A sangoma of some sort must have lied to Khupe that she’ll be the next president of Zim in 2018 & she’s trying desperately to hang on to that ‘prophecy’, otherwise nothing else can explain her insanity

  14. deliberately destroying your political career as opposed to becoming the most influential female vice president….HOW PEOPLE THINK WHEN CAUGHT IN GREED xxa xaa.

  15. MaKhupe is not wrong, there is no need to be insulting each other. Let her go ahead and do what she wants to do, lets see where it will get her. She is doing the right thing but at the end of the day,we the people will then speak. Dont underestimate anyone in politics.Politics is a game of numbers and if you have no numbers ,you lose. Saka give Khupe her democratic right within the Democratic Party to express herself and let the people speak.

  16. Sibusisiwe Gwanda

She went to South Africa together with G40 and Mujuru. Together they went to blue roof. Justy imagine

  17. Comment…kupe is failing to note she a ndebele and ed is shona and zanu will win on tribal ground as happened on power ful joshua nkomo. To have kupe on mdc ticket ed will be happy bcz shona are majority and its fact this is why ncube hired mutambara bcz he know zimbabwe politics better .this is why zanu support kupe bcz they will easily crunch kupe using tribal ground like what they at zapu .so for now chamisa is best to fight tribalist zanu .after winning then we can have ndebele president bcz we can state power to influence the nation.as for now we don’t have power as opposition .

  18. Mapurisa eZRP haachagezi veduwee. I used to see them wearing ironed uniforn n polished shoes bt these dayz haaaya asi hamuchakwanisis kutenga sipo? Hyaaa makaita mamalade makanga majaira kutibira paroad nxaa tigezerwei apa munosvoresa nyika

  19. Its just just like that in zimbabwe a shona majority people dont vote for ndebele president and ths y tswangirai apointed more vice president shonas because he new that he was dying and khuphe his vice s gona take his place which makes it no votes in mashonaland

  20. Ungavumi mama yibambe kanjalo lami ngiyeza kkkkk

  21. i can see that khupe is just aa selfish and power hungry women because she even began these dramas 2016 while the presdent himself was still alive. I still remember that she organised a pot beating or whatever demonstration whilst tsvangirai n others having a demo. SO I We don’t care if she didnt recognise our pres advcate chamisa what matters most is that the whole party is rallying behind advocate.

  22. Comment…the time shall come when we have ndebele president but as for now its suicide bomb for mdc as zanu will use tribalist politics and win with over 90 percent .this will destroy mdc. Look at south africa they have a vhenda president ramaphosa after four president coming from major tribes xhosa and zulu respectively .this is reason ramaphosa failed to success mandela and lost to mbeki bcz the party felt threatened and insecure by that time becoz the vhenda constitute 5percent of s a population.currently ramaphosa is now president bcz the party felt safe and the anc people are now mature they can vote for minor tribes.as for she is correct on her defense that she is senior vp but the fact is many shona people will not for ndebele candidates and this will destroy the party just like ramaphosa her time shall come when ppl are mature and educated that tribe dosent matter .not now ppl are very sensitivity to tribe and this will chase away neutral voters.

    1. i agree with you and also when people aremature enough in politics to accept a woman president bacause out politics here in Africa is not there yet but in future it will also become normal, she just needs kudzikama

  23. Mukaita zvekutamba she can be a big blow to Chamisa by splitting votes. Don’t tek her for granted… Don’t underrate her

  24. ANONMOUS siyana ne ZANU PF. Ndezve MDC

  25. madam khupe, your decision is very costly to poor fellow countrymen.
