The man, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to assaulting his 13-year-old step-son using a belt after he failed to explain why he had not submitted his school fees to the relevant authorities.

Gweru magistrate, Judith Taruvinga fined him $150, in default he would serve three months in prison. The court heard that on September 16 this year, the man confronted the juvenile and assaulted him after he failed to explain what had happened to the money he had been given as school fees.

The teenager sustained bruises all over the body and reported the matter to his aunt who in turn alerted the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
