The suspect, Brighton Dzambi (age not given) of Shadaya village, under Chief Neshangwe in Sadza, is on the run after raping the woman from Dzivaresekwa, Harare, who had travelled to his shrine for cleansing purposes.

Efforts to get a comment from Mashonaland East police were fruitless yesterday.

According to police sources, on May 26, the complainant travelled to Dzambi’s shrine to seek help from the self-styled prophet.

It is reported that Dzambi told his client that her problem would be only solved if he inserted his manhood into her private parts.

It is said the complainant pleaded with Dzambi to use other means to assist her, but he told her that there was no other way.

The following morning, at around 4am, Dzambi took the complainant to his shrine, where he ordered her to remove her clothes and lie on her back at the centre of the shrine.

He raped her once and after the act, Dzambi inserted his fingers into her private parts and removed an egg-like thing that had colourful beads around it.

He told the complainant that the cleansing was successful before dismissing her.

Upon returning to Harare, the complainant did not tell anyone about the rape until on June 12 when she disclosed the matter to her cousin sister.

She then reported the matter to the police at Sadza, who then went to the scene, but failed to locate the prophet.
