The municipality has moved to provide housing for more than 5 000 home seekers through its $20 million, Victory Park housing scheme.
The housing scheme aims to provide low-cost residential stands, measuring around 300 square metres, to about 5 700 beneficiaries.
Addressing beneficiaries at the site on Friday, Kadoma mayor, Muchineripi Chinyanganya, said: “We are happy to say phase 1 of Victory Park housing scheme is ready for construction. We will continue, as your councillors, to explore more avenues that will turn our people from lodgers to home owners.”
Project manager, Pardon Muputa said council, which was selling land at $12,70 per square metre, had cut the cost of developing the land by half after it did all the plan drawings and designs on its own.
“Initially, council wanted to outsource developments of the project because the road network will reach 50km, but the cost would have been beyond the poor, so we cut the costs by 50% to $20 million,” he said.
Muputa said the Victory Park housing scheme, which is being developed in two phases, will be completed by 2018.
