The matter came to light on Monday when Gracious Munetsi approached magistrate, Barbara Mateko seeking a protection order against Gaven Tafirenyika.

Munetsi told the court that whenever they had a misunderstanding, Tafirenyika assaulted her in front of their children.

“He does not mind the presence of the children and the last time, he assaulted and nearly killed me,” she said.

“After that, he forces me to have sexual intercourse with him.”

The court further heard that Tafirenyika had devised a means of intercepting Munetsi’s cell phone conversations and messages.

“I do not know how he did, it but he listens to my calls and also has access to my messages,” she explained.

In response, Tafirenyika said he did not oppose to the granting of the protection order, but asked the magistrate to warn Munetsi against provoking him.

“You can grant her the order, but she must not insult and provoke me,” he said.

Mateko granted the order by consent, saying Tafirenyika should not harass, threaten or physically abuse Munetsi for the next five years.
