‘Killer’ detective denied bail

According to court papers, on April 21, at around 11pm, Simudzirai was drinking beer with fellow officers including the now deceased and one Mirirai Chiveza who are both police officers stationed at ZRP Karoi Urban.

A MWENEZI-BASED Criminal Investigation Department officer Farai Simudzirai, who allegedly stabbed to death his colleague during a beer binge appeared yesterday before Karoi magistrate Blessing Makati facing a murder charge.

The accused, who was denied bail for killing Privilege Hove, a police officer stationed in Karoi, will return to court on May 8 for routine remand.

According to court papers, on April 21, at around 11pm, Simudzirai was drinking beer with fellow officers including the now deceased and one Mirirai Chiveza who are both police officers stationed at ZRP Karoi Urban.

“Accused person had a misunderstanding with fellow patrons and Chiveza intervened by dragging him outside the night club. This did not go well with the accused who then hit Chiveza with an unknown object on the forehead,” state prosecutor Progress Muponde said.

“Hove who was part of the patrons, came to the rescue. Simudzirai produced an Okapi knife and stabbed Hove on the stomach resulting in protruding of the intestines.

“Hove was rushed to Karoi district hospital by Chiweza and other members of the public.” 

The deceased was transferred to Chinhoyi provincial hospital and later Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare where he died upon admission.
